Experimentally-validated numerical studies of thermal performance enhancement of latent thermal energy storage systems with periodically reciprocating flow

چکیده
The effects of periodic reversal flow direction a heat transfer fluid (HTF) on the rate in latent thermal energy storage system (LTESS) are numerically investigated for consecutive melting and freezing cycles phase change material (PCM). Numerical results validated with experimental measurements. Parametric studies performed, where different parameters that affect performance LTESS varied independently. these variations periodically reciprocating unidirectional HTF studied. Periodically increased uniformity temperature gradients throughout PCM both cycles, compared to flow. Increasing HTF, increases relative enhancement cycles. An optimal reciprocation period which is dependent other parameters, noticed produce maximum fusion or conductivity nonlinearly.

Numerical Analysis of Shell-and-Tube Type Latent Thermal Energy Storage Performance with Different Arrangements of Circular Fins
Latent thermal energy storage (LTS) systems are versatile due to their high-energy storage density within a small temperature range. In shell-and-tube type storage systems fins can be used in order to achieve enhanced charging and discharging power. Typically, circular fins are evenly distributed over the length of the heat exchanger pipe. However, it is yet to be proven that this allocation is...
متن کاملThermal Performance of Jet Impingement with Spent Flow Management
The present study proposes novel micro-jet impingement heat sink with effusion holes for flow extraction. The design consists of impingement nozzles surrounded by multiple effusion holes to take away the spent fluid. A three-dimensional numerical model is used for steady, incompressible, laminar flow and conjugate heat transfer for the performance analysis of the proposed design. The computatio...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of a Porous Latent Heat Thermal Energy Storage for Thermoelectric Cooling
Porous latent heat thermal energy storage for thermoelectric cooling is simulated via a matrix-based enthalpy formulation, having the temperature as unknown, in a three-dimensional domain. The system is made up of two aluminum containers; the inner one contains the cooling objective in water suspension and the outer one the phase change material (PCM) in a porous aluminum matrix. The system’s c...
